Short story competition 2022

Competition rules

Xàbia Book Circle is repeating our very successful short story competition from 2020.

Subject

The subject and form are at the author’s discretion, although the story may begin with the words ‘I’ll always remember what’s-his-name (or what’s-her-name)’.

  1. The Judge is Christopher North, poet, writer and Committee member of the Xàbia Book Circle.

  2. Word limit: 3,000 to 5,000. Word count should appear at the end of the manuscript.

  3. Entries must be in English, unpublished (in print, online or by any other means) and written solely by the author.

  4. Entries must be anonymous.

  5. Entries should be submitted double-spaced, either in Word or as a PDF. Eventual presentation of prize-winners on the Book Circle website will be to the Committee’s format.

  6. Entries to be submitted as email attachments to xabiabookcircle21@gmail.com, with 'XBC Competition Entry' in the subject heading. Author’s name should appear solely on the accompanying email, not in the manuscript itself.

  7. The competition is open to all for a 10€ entry fee. Payment can be made to the PayPal account of Christopher North, christopher@oldolivepress.com; to a Committee member, including Alison Tain at the July supper; or to the post box of Committee member Rod Davis (details from roddavis@icloud.com) in the Jávea pueblo.

  8. Closing date: All entries must be received by midnight on
20 September 2022. The winners’ names (first, second and third, plus commended) will be announced on 4 October 2022, together with the Judge’s comments and a reading of the winning short stories.

  9. First prize: 100€. Second and third prizes: wine or cava.

  10. All entrants must agree to have their stories published on the Book Circle website.
